New Zealand Time – March 8, 5:21pm
Well, it has been yet another lovely day here in Palmy. From what I can gather most people in NZ would tell you the scenery and weather in Palmy is sub-par, which I suppose in comparison with other parts of the country could be true. However, they’re really just spoiled. Around 25 degrees today, with a cool wind. Mind you there is always wind, so what actually changes is whether its hurricane or gale-like.
We had an earthquake last night, right around 8pm. Holly and I weren’t entirely sure what is was at first, as I thought it was perhaps a noisy neighbour. In hindsight, no neighbour can really shake the building and knock my stick of deodorant off the bathroom sink. I didn’t think much of it anyways but was told today at school that it was indeed an earthquake, around the 3-3.5 mark people estimated. You sure don’t get that at home.
Tomorrow is Friday, and the last day of my week at my primary school. Today my mentor teacher was off on professional development, so we had a release teacher in (release = supply). Funnily enough, she was from Ireland and is simply spending several months here supplying as part of a working holiday around the area with her boyfriend. So it was an international class, with a Irish woman and a Canadian man at the helm. As a result, I did a large majority of the instruction and management for the day which was obviously a most helpful and worthwhile experience. The morning went quite smoothly, and only the latter stages of the afternoon were hectic as the kids grew tired. Nonetheless, a good day although tiring.
I’ve managed to take a few photos of the school I’m currently at, and I promise there will be more on the way. You can find the nine I have so far here: Russell St. School Photos. As for the photo-mailing list, I’ve fixed a few problems that were noted (thanks Mrs. McPhee!) so all should be peachy now. My apologies for any crazy email barrage I might have possibly created as a result of previous errors.
Otherwise, all is well. Still trying to stay up to date on certain things (hockey) at home. I actually managed to catch the third period of a Pittsburgh Penguin game on the weekend.
Well, I hope everyone is doing good. Take care all.
